We all rely on our phones and tablets more and more for work, keeping in touch, socializing, and information gathering, which means we keep them on for several hours every day. There is nothing more frustrating than having a low battery and no way to recharge it.
This is where the portable, supplemental battery pack helps solve the problem. We have all seen people at airports or other public spaces sitting on the floor near an electric outlet with their phone recharging. Wouldn't your customers and employees appreciate using a battery power pack to recharge their phones, or tablets? Even better, wouldn't you love to have all those people sitting on the floor see your client use their portable power pack with your logo imprint?
So, you know the need is there for these devices, but how do you choose which one? There are all kinds of battery chargers available. To help you select the right one, here’s what you need to know.
There are a wide variety of shapes and capacities, all rated by Milliamps Hours (mAh). A Milliamps Hour is 1/1000th of an Amp Hour, so a 1000mAh = 1.0 Ah. This rating is important because it's the easiest way to distinguish the strength or capacity of a battery. The higher the mAh, the longer the battery will last. Think of it like a car’s gas tank. The voltage is similar to how much gas is being used, and mAh is the size of the gas tank. The bigger the gas tank (mAh) rating the longer the device will run. Below is a chart showing the battery capacities for popular smart phones and tablets, which will help you select the most appropriate size charger for your prospects.
The second most important consideration when purchasing this type of product is product safety testing. Earlier last year there were major recalls of power packs, one from a national retailer and one from a promotional products importer due to poor product quality. In both cases, the power packs overheated and some even caught on fire! This will NOT help you build your brand. You certainly don’t want to jeopardize your customers’ important devices with a faulty charger. Therefore, ask for devices that have been tested and certified by one or more of these safety agencies—UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory), CE, and RoHS or if the device mentions that it is FCC compliant. This is definitely a situation where you don’t want to make your decision based purely on price!
